Jay Sawyer of Chicago Highlights the Problems with Bottled Water and Why It Should Be Banned

Jay Sawyer of Chicago states that the production and transportation of bottled water cause a lot of pollution. Other problems include injuries to marine life from discarded bottles and ugly garbage dumps filled with empty bottles. According to his research, it takes about 1.5 million barrels of oil for producing plastic water bottles used each year. Reasons why bottled water should be avoided according to Jay are - Plastic isn't Good for Drinking; Bottled Water isn't Cleaner than Tap Water; Waste of all Resources; Lack of Recycling; and Lack of Funding for Tap Water.

  1. Jay Sawyer of Chicago Highlights the Problems with Bottled Water and Why It Should Be Banned Jay Sawyer, an environmentalist from Chicago feels that there are many advantages of banning bottled water, starting with waste reduction to a cleaner environment and many more. He notes that about 70% of plastic water bottles purchased in the United States of America are not recycled, which means that the majority of them end up in either landfills or in the oceans, harming the ecosystem and poisoning marine animals. He feels that as plastic bottles require oil, water, and environmental costs of transporting; this use of oil and plastic contributes to global warming and carbon emissions while creating unnecessary landfill. He is sure that banning bottled water will encourage people to choose sustainable alternatives – refilling water.
