Honors • Ed Scott: President of the Meteoritical Society (2008). • Ed Scott: Recipient of the Leonard Medal of the Meteoritical Society (2008). • Margo Edwards: U.S. Coast Guards Distinguished Public Service Award (2007). • Andy Harris (2003), Sasha Krot (2004), Paul Lucey (2005), and Milton Garces (2006): UH Regent’s Medal for Excellence in Research. • Andy Harris: UH Regent’s Medal for Excellence in Teaching (2006). • Klaus Keil: J. Lawrence Smith Medal and $25K Prize, National Academy of Sciences (2006). • John Porter: NASA Group Achievement Award for Outstanding Contributions Associated with the Helios Prototype Mishap Investigation (2005). • 7 current HIGP members have received the U.S. Navy’s Antarctic Service Medal (>30 consecutive days south of 60S).

Achievements of Former Grads/Post-docs • Jim Bell: PI on PanCam for Mars Exploration Rovers • Mark Robinson: PI on Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Camera • Bob Brown: PI on Visible Infrared Mapping Spectrometer (Cassini mission to Saturn). • Roger Clark, Lisa Gaddis (Branch Chief), and Matt Patrick all work for U.S.G.S • Lucey McFadden: Team member on Dawn, Deep Impact and NEAR missions • Nathan Bridges: Oceanographer at PTWC • Vindell Hsu: Seismologist at PTWC • Ben Bussey: Project Scientist on Lunar Impactor mission • Stan Love: Astronaut – visited Space Station earlier this month • Jenny Engels, Luke Flynn, Andy Harris, Keith Horton, Sasha Krot, Paul Lucey, Scott Rowland, and Robert Wright, all now have faculty positions within SOEST.
