Embracing the Great Commission: Go and Make Disciples!

The Great Commission, as outlined in Matthew 28:19-20, calls us to action: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations.” This divine mandate emphasizes our generic authority to spread the Gospel and reach out to the world in varied and lawful ways. Jesus reassures us of His presence while urging us to be baptized and to obey His teachings. As believers, we are commanded to share the grace of God that brings salvation to all. Let us be diligent in teaching and guiding others, grounding them in faith and leading them to Christ.

  2. Go therefore • “Go” gives us generic authority. • We may travel in any lawful, expedient way. • Generic v. Specific • Genesis 6:14 “Make yourself an ark of gopherwood;” • Ephesians 5:19 “Singing and making melody in your heart…”

  3. GO!!!

  4. Make disciples • John 8:31 Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. • Mark 16:15 And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. • 2 Thessalonians 2:13-14, John 6:44-45, 1 Corinthians 1:21

  5. Of all the nations • Titus 2:11 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, • John 3:16-17 • 1 John 2:2 And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world.

  6. Baptizing them • Mark 16:16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. • 1 Peter 3:21 Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, (ESV) • Acts 22:16 And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.’

  9. I am with you always… • Hebrews 13:5 Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” • Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ[a] who strengthens me. • 1 Corinthians 1:9 God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

  10. Be Saved today! • Believe and confess – Romans 10:9-10 • Repent – Luke 13:3 • Be baptized – Acts 2:38 • Be faithful – Revelation 2:10
