Advantages Of A Franchise • Sometimes, prospects who never have been exposed to franchising need a tutorial on why franchising is so prevalent and why it works. • Be prepared to discuss..if it has not come up, it will. • Top reasons - some are obvious, some may not be to a new buyer (source: Management 2000)

  7. Advantages Of A Franchise - Obvious • Provide business plan • Provide training and on-going support • Brand recognition • Easier financing (typically) • Buying power for advertising, supplies, equipment, inventory, etc.

  8. Advantages Of A Franchise – Not So Obvious • Less money at start-up – franchisors have removed the ‘mistakes’ and ‘failures’ and have streamlined costs. Especially true for brick-and-mortar locations. • Location selection process – franchisors have an idea of what works and more importantly what won’t via demographic studies.

  9. Advantages Of A Franchise – Not So Obvious • The resource of other franchisees (or the franchisor) to help navigate through tough times can be invaluable. • Protected territories give not only some peace of mind, but a cluster of franchises in an area may help to limit future competition.

  10. Advantages Of A Franchise – Not So Obvious • Franchisors spend significant dollars on R&D to bring new products and services to market, money most independent business owners cannot afford to invest.

Advantages Of A Franchise – One Road NOT To Go Down • For decades, Franchisors have touted a higher ‘success rate’ than start-up independent businesses. • The SBA and at least one other study have somewhat disproven this theory. • The International Franchise Association claims otherwise. • At best, the data is murky here.
