  2. Elements of Design • This presentation explains the different Elements of Design: Lines Color Value Texture Shape Form Space Art Site Art Site

  3. Lines • Lines are used in artwork to outline or add detail. • There are many types of lines; Horizontal Curved Vertical Zigzag Diagonal Straight Dotted

  4. Color • Artists add color and value to an artwork to show feeling or emotion. • Primary colors are blue, yellow and red. • Secondary colors are orange, purple and green. • Cool colors are blue, green and purple. • Warm colors are red, orange and yellow.

  5. Value • Value is the lightness or darkness of a color. • If you add white to a color you get a lighter color and it is called a tint. • If you add black to a color you get a darker color and it is called a shade.

  6. Texture • Artists can create texture in their artwork to show how things feel. • Some words that are used to describe texture or how something feels are; rough, smooth, bumpy or furry.

  7. Shape • Artists use shapes in artwork that are two dimensional. • Some basic shapes are triangles, squares, circles, rectangles and ovals. • Artists also use shapes such as stars and hearts.

  8. Form • Artists create form in three dimensional artwork. • Five basic forms are; sphere, cone, pyramid, cylinder and free-form.

  9. Space • Artists create space in artworks that are two dimensional. • Positive space is the filled in object. • Negative space is the empty space around the object.
