  1. Mitochondria Right this way everyone. Step on up. Mighty Cellular Beasts

  2. Introduction to Mitochondria What the heck is a mitochondria This is a mitochondrion This is the inside of a mitochondrion

  3. Mitochondria Did someone say sugar. I love sugar. I make sugar into honey just like the mitochondria turns sugar into energy • Also know as mighty cellular beasts • Convert sugar to energy inside the cell • Believed to have evolved from a prokaryotic cell

  4. Description • Ovular • Outer layer is smooth • Inner layer is ruffled • Gray under microscope The mitochondria looks cool, just like me

  5. Where are they? • The mitochondria are located in the cytoplasm of the cell • Near the nucleus so energy can be transferred. Location There they are.

  6. Make Up • Made up of four main parts. • Outer membrane protects the mitochondria • The inner membrane supports the cristae and martix • The cristae are the ruffled layers inside the mitochondria • The martix holds specialized proteins How interesting

  7. This sounds so sweat Tell them what it is already! Come on, come on, come on What could it be? Now for the main event I’m so exited

  8. Functions SPLENDID • Aerobic Respiration • Converting Sugar to Energy • Controls water level in cell • Recycles and decomposes proteins, fats, and Carbohydrates • Forms urea Fascinating So many functions
