  1. EURESCOM P810 Wireless ATM access and advanced software techniques for mobile networks architectures Enrico Scarrone CSELT Centro Studi E Laboratori Telecomunicazioni Enrico.Scarrone@cselt.it Project overview

  2. Participants: BT (UK), CNET / France Telecom (F), Cselt (I), Deutsche Telekom (D), GMD-Fokus (D), KPN Research (NL), Portugal Telecom (P), University of Pisa (I).

  3. Scope of P810 Operator Requirements Clients Needs & Market Requirements Advanced Network Architectures New technologies Standard Bodies

  4. Two time frames are addressed by the Project: Short term scenario, UMTS/IMT2000, Hiperlan, W-ATM Mainly focus on the topics currently under development ETSI BRAN, ETSI SMG, 3GPP, ITU-T; Future telecommunication networks complete and strong integration of packed and circuit services, Network control and services provision based on the advanced SW techniques. Scope of P810

  5. Investigation lines Pre-study Guidelines for the project and for the Network Evolutions W-ATM Access Hiperlan to mobile Networks Mobile Agent Technology for Mobile Networks Task 1 Task 2 Task 3 Task 4 New architecture For control and transport IP and/or ATM based

  9. What will be the mobile telecommunication network of the future? What are the information which are relevant for a Network Operator in order to plan the development of the future Mobile networks? ?

  10. Needs Solutions Systems Requirements Components Evolution trends • User evolution More services<=> voice+data+mobility • Transport Technologies evolution IP - ATM - Mobile IP • New opportunities on the Wireless link UMTS - W-ATM - W-IP • New Sw technologies Mobile Agents • Internet access facilities WAP

  11. Specifically work needs to be done on: The adoption of ATM and IP technologies on the wireless link The adoption of ATM and IP technologies in the access and core networks, and the comparison of ATM-only architectures with emerging possibilities (Hybrid, IP-only…) The relationship between the physical layer and the ATM or IP layers The Guarantee of QoS in the wireless link The development of a network architecture that will best exploit technological advances (e.g. hybrid ATM/IP architectures) and fulfils PNOs needs. The study of what level of the system mobility is best handled given technology and business drives

  12. Specifically work needs to be done on: The use of software agents for Network Control Services management (VHE, dynamic resource allocation…) Location Servers Mobility management End user service provision Reference (www.eurescom.de) EURESCOM Project P810 “Wireless ATM access and Advanced software techniques for mobile networks architectures”: Deliverable 1: Service Requirements, state of the art and guidelines for the development of future radio and mobile networks
