  5. How Are We Getting There?

  6. Summer camp is in tents. Each scout will share a tent with a tent buddy. Some scouts may choose to bring hammocks but this is limited by the number of safe places to hang them. Scouts are responsible for keeping their tents clean and organized.

  7. What to Bring to Camp Foot locker that will fit under cot and a day pack or a large duffle bag

  8. What to Bring to Camp Clothing • Class A (shirt, shorts, socks, belt, neckerchief or bolo) • Class B or other (6 - 7 sets) • Underwear and socks (7 - 8 sets or more) • Sturdy shoes or hiking boots (Closed toed, NO FLIP FLOPS!) • Swimsuit and water activity shoes • Hoodie or sweatshirt (troop hoodie if you have one) • One pair of long pants (scout pants or jeans) • Rain jacket (rain pants optional) • Hat (baseball or stocking) • Sunglasses (optional) Make sure to label anything that you want to return home.

  9. What to Bring to Camp Personal Gear • Sleeping bag (or bedding) and pillow • Two Towels (old beach or pool towels work well) • Bug Netting (optional) • Washcloth • Soap (in a container) and shampoo • Toothbrush and toothpaste • Deodorant • Sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) • Bug Spray (non-aerosol) • Coat Hanger (for class A)

  10. What to Bring to Camp Personal Gear • Water bottles (refillable) • Flashlight or headlamp with extra batteries • Pencil, Pens, notepad, or notebook • BSA Handbook • BSA Merit Badge Pamphlets and workbooks for any merit badges your scout is taking. • Any Pre-Requisites for Merit Badges • Spending Money (enough for camp and 2 meal stops)

  11. What Not to Bring… • Firearms, Ammunition, Alcoholic Beverages, Cigarettes, Illegal Drugs or Fireworks. Dismissal from camp and further disciplinary actions will result. • Sheath Knives (first year scouts may not carry any knife until the earn their “totin chip”) Mr. Menapace can hold any knives for new scouts. • Cell Phones, electronics games, or listening devices. Scouts are encouraged to bring cards, chess, checkers, etc for free time.

  12. FAQ and Lessons Learned from a 1st Year Scout Parent • The buddy system will be promoted before and throughout the campout. They will need to identify who they plan on sharing a tent during summer camp. • The Troop promotes Scout Spirit through the wear of the uniform. During evening flag ceremonies they will be in the scout uniform but the rest of the time they will be in Class B uniform. T-shirts from their pack or previous camps are fine, as well as getting plain red t-shirts from Old Navy, Target, Wal-mart, etc. • The New Scout Patrol will be escorted by two leaders to all activities and provide supervisory oversight. • Mail call is a good morale event for new scouts. Some get packages or even just cards from parents. If you don’t have enough time to mail them, we can arrange for them to be delivered by leaders on the day of your choosing. • Scout books can get ruined very quickly; scout book covers are highly recommended and put them in zip lock bags for campouts.

  13. How Much Money Does My Scout Need? We recommend that each scout bring at least $ 80 in spending money to camp. That gives them $60 to spend at camp with $20 in reserve for meals enroute. Camp Raven Knob’s Trading Post sells a variety of camping supplies, toiletries, merit badge materials, handicraft supplies, and clothing items. They also sell a variety of snack foods like ice cream, slushies, etc. Your scout should learn to manage their own money but Mr. Schregardus will act as the troop banker for any parent who wants to put controls on their scouts spending habits. Please discuss any concerns with Mr. Schregardus.

  14. How Do We Send Medicines? Mr. Hass and Mr. Goddard will act as the Troop Medicine Men at Camp. All Prescription medications sent to camp need to be in their original packaging with all doctors instructions on the labels. The “medicine men” will control and dispense all medications in accordance with the written directions.

  15. What About Dietary Restrictions? No nuts or nut products will be used by Troop. This is a known dietary restriction for a number of our boys. Any other special dietary needs should be relayed BY PARENTS to Mr. Murawski or Mr. Bristow. They will coordinate with the staff at the dining hall during camp.

  16. How to Contact Your Scout at Camp Parent Scouts like to receive post cards and care packages from home during the week. Mail will be delivered to camp each weekday. Please send any mail with a return address no later than July 12thto ensure your scout will receive it in time. If there is a family emergency, parents or family members may contact us directly or may call the camp office. We will do our best to monitor our messages and get back to you as soon as we can. The camp office monitors call during the daytime only.
