Psychoanalysis of Dorothy Ashley Escobar MarybellRegalado 29 July 2013
thesis • The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is a ubiquitous literary text which opens up numerous interpretations of Dorothy's psyche and her suffering of childhood trauma. • Feminism • History • Politics
FEMINISM “like the real children of her day, Dorothy accepts the empirical reality of what she experiences, knows what she wants, and sets about doing what needs to be done to achieve it” (13).
HISTORY “She saw there was not much bread left in the basket, and the girl was thankful the Scarecrow did not have to eat anything, for there was scarcely enough for herself and Toto for the day” (89).
POLITICS “Once,”[…] “we were a free people, living happily in the great forest, flying from tree to tree, eating nuts and fruit, and doing just as we pleased without calling anybody master”(248).
Psychology and Home “No matter how dreary and gray our homes are, with people of flesh and blood would rather live there than in any other country, be it ever so beautiful. There is no place like home” (44-45).
