    2. What is Retinitis Pigmentosa Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) is the progressive degeneration of the retina, specifically of the light receptors, known as the rods and cones. In this progressive degeneration of the retina, the peripheral vision slowly constricts and central vision is usually retained until late in the disease.

    3. How to get retinitis pigmentosa RP is inherited as a dominant or recessive gene. It can also be sex-linked inheritance. Not every generation RP is expressed.

    4. Who is affected by RP The only way to get Retinitis Pigmentosa is that the gene has to be inherited to them by the parents and then expressed in later years usually at teenage years the affects of RP show up.

    5. How to test for RP To test for RP doctors can use special tools to look directly at the retina for degeneration. Other signs for RP is loss of side vision. Loss of night vision and eventually loss of center vision

    6. Treatment There is no known treatment for retinitis pigmentosa but reasearch is being done in rats to find a cure. Since there is no cure for RP, people can increase there vitamin A diet which can slow the process of retina degeneration.
