What IEEE can/must do Relevant Content • Academic Journey • (Early Career to Late Career) • Student Journey • (Freshman – Graduate) • Industrial Journey • (Early Career – Late Career) • Interrupted Journeys • (Unique transitions) Focused Delivery
Student Focus • Before brainstorming for solutions, the group discussed the existing problems, and understood the students’ needs. • Then, the group generated a list of problems. • Next, the group identified the key problem - Poor Communication between Sections and Student Branches, and lack of awareness of IEEE Section existence • How can Region 1 help?
Student Focus – Solution #1 • Generate a plan to show students how IEEE and Section can help the student branches • Encourage andRewardSections to hold the Section Excom meetings with the student branches or at schools • Encourage andRewardSections to collaboratewith a student branch to plan and organizean event/activity For Examples: • SPAC/iSTEP– New York Section • MIT Undergraduate Research Technology Conference – Boston Section
Student Focus – Solution #2 • To create and maintain a standard list of email alias addresses – facilitate and easy for students andstudent branch officers to contact the Section Excom Officers: BostonChair@ieee.org, BostonSupersoon@ieee.org • To train Section and Student Branch Officers on how to promote IEEE and sell membership (at MD booth, meetings/events, freshmen orientation, etc) • Provide volunteer opportunity for students • Recruit faculty members to outreach and support their students
