  3. On July 20, 2012 James went to the Dark Knight Rises in a movie theatre in Aurora, Colorado. He dyed his hair orange, pretending to be the Joker and shot up the theatre. He killed twelve people and wounded 70.

  4. He has no known criminal record prior to the shooting. He was hospitalized after attempting suicide a few times while in prison. He is held without bail and entered a plea of not guilty on March 12, 2013. His attorney had been expected to enter a plea of diminished capacity, which is pretty much an insanity plea. On March 27, 2013 he pleaded guilty to avoid the death penalty and then on June 4, 2013 he pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. The next trial is scheduled for October 2014. ( no popular culture )

  5. Social Control Theory I believe Holmes was just a complete loner. According to research, he had a miserable love life. He never had a girlfriend and even before the shooting he tried to find love and sex on an adult casual sex website. He was rejected by all of the women he contacted. These women were looking for cheap, anonymous sex to begin with. His actions were the results from his social isolation and lack of love.

Background Born Dec. 13, 1987 in San Diego, CA Father was a mathematician and scientist Mother was a registered nurse He ran cross country and played soccer in high school Graduated with highest honors in neuroscience at University of California Graduated in the top 1% of his class with a 3.949 GPA In 2012 his academics declined, 3 days after failing an important oral exam he dropped out with no explanation of why.
