  2. Welcome to 1st Grade! • This is an important year for you! • During this night please fill free to ask me any questions that you may have bout first grade!

  3. All About Me • My Background • I grew up in Talladega. • I attended R.L. Young Elementary, Trinity Christian Academy, and Jacksonville State University. • My Experience • I’ve been teaching for 81/2 years. • I have taught 5th and 1st grades. • I was a reading coach for two years in Kindergarten and First Grade classrooms

  5. Goals • To give you the academic tools you need to progress to 2nd grade. • To provide a supportive learning environment. • To have fun while we learn. • To make new friends and discover new interests.

  6. Class Content • We will cover all the subjects and topics that our state believes are important for you to learn during 1st grade. • I will give you updates on what projects we will be doing and activities throughout the year

  7. Math • In Math we learn about time, measurement, addition, subtraction, recognizing money, shapes, story problems, and a combination of any of the above

  8. Reading • In Reading we go from basic recognition of words to comprehending appropriate text according to student level. It is so exciting to watch First Graders grow so quickly in this area. I will keep you updated on how your child is doing in his/her reading

  9. Science • AMSTI –this is hands on science in the following areas: animal, plants, balance and motion, and air and weather.

  10. Class Rules • Rules are basically simple. • Quiet Voices • Work Together • Help Each Other • Do Your Best

  11. Homework • Homework will be sent on a regular basis.
