Agenda • STARTER: Demo importing data (10 mins) • MAIN: Importing data, create the query and report • PLENARY LEARNING AIMS • All students will know how to setup a new database and import data from an external file • Most will know how to use a query to filter their results • Some will know how to create a report with sorting and labels
Save the data file from vispvle.com to D:/Y10 • Open Microsoft Access 3. Click blank database File Name: Something meaningful like: Cinema Database
Click on the External Data tab and under Import, click on the Text File.
Press Browse to locate the file where you have downloaded it. This may be in “Downloads” or the D: drive D:\Year 10Film Data
Row headings have already been added so make sure the box is ticked
CHECK ALL DATA TYPES ACROSS ALL FIELDS (COLUMNS). THEN PRESS NEXT
Choose your own primary key: First column or “NO PRIMARY KEY”
As we are not going to be importing this data again, just press close
By clicking on your film data table, your new table will open. Go to HOME->view->DESIGN VIEW to do any further formatting of fields e.g. currency or boolean
