Amazing resources!! • Employ the practice of UDL in daily • lesson planning and share lessons • with others • Network with colleagues to develop • UDL units and implement the use AT • whenever possible • Commit myself to learning one • new thing relating to technology • every couple of months. • Use power point for lessons and presentations Personally • Check out Blogs that are of personal interest and customize news for me personally • Establish a family Blog for my • personal use to share with family • Create a Wiki for my • children to use like • Ricky’s Wiki

  3. Learning: Accessible and Engaging for all…. • Consider various learning styles and each person’s strengths in different areas • Challenge traditional methods of teaching • Provide lessons using several media options combining speech, text, and images • Provide opportunities for active engagement allowing students to choose from a wide variety of ways to demonstrate their learning • Use lots of visuals • Use technology and digital media whenever possible (ex: e-text, Kurzweil) Learning – by Universal Design

  4. What will I share? • All of the free resources available • Wiki at4all and my own site for links, videos, add-ons, information on UDL • Modzilla browser – lobby for accessibility through our school district • The cool multimedia tools available on the internet (great for students and • teachers for school and also for parents for personal use!) • Offer teacher and EA in-services to introduce staff to the resources • available • Introduce grade groups to Blogging to network with each other on an • ongoing basis (blogging as a networking tool) • Teach others how to create their own Wikis to use as a networking tool • (grade groups gathering resources, Special Ed. Teachers between • schools to share links and sites found, classes to create classroom Wikis)

  5. Tools and programs that will make a difference: • Kurzweil and available online books through SET-BC (accessible books) • Offer support and inclusion for those who are challenged by reading and auditory support for those who need more than written text. • Use of MP3 players makes reading independent and inclusive in the classroom • Courtney School District Resources site • Ready made lessons and activities relating to the IRP’s, such a valuable resource for teachers

  6. Tools and programs that will make a difference cont….: • Clicker 5 and Set-BC resources (curriculum set) • Two children in our school that struggle with writing, one with find motor difficulties and one that needs auditory and visual support for word recognition • The power of the Wiki! • Organizing links, videos, online information • Tool for networking with others • Engaging learners, connecting with parents, • sharing learning with others

  7. The big “AH-HA!” • The realization of the plethora of free online and downloadable software available via the internet for free • The incredible usefulness of a Wiki to gather and organize information pulled from the web so that it is unavailable for others and the sites are customized to meet the needs of my students, parents and colleagues. • Easy to use, and easy to create • Can be educational game sites for kids, lesson planning for teachers, homework and drill and practice activities • Useful to parents for supporting learning at home. • Also, the collaborative aspect of the Wiki in that things can be posted from teacher to student to parent, or that it can be collaboratively developed between groups of people. • Kurzweil – MP3 accessibility, the huge availability of online resources and it’s flexibility of use
