  2. I. Get DS-2019 and J-1 Visa Early • In my case, I directly went to FedEx Taoyuan Airport Station to get DS-2019 on July 19, 2009, got J-1 Visa on July 20, and took flight to the U.S. on July 21.

  3. II. Life in New York City • Housing in Elmhurst, Queens, NYC • No car, subway only • Convenient • Safe • Expensive

  4. III. Research in NYU • Joined three Ph.D. seminar courses • Attended workshops every week • Drafted three working papers • Enjoyed reading in Washington Square with coffee

  5. IV. Join Chinese Community • Had a speech on “The Development of Accounting and Its Education Problems” at Chinese American Academic & Professional Society (CAAPS) on September 12, 2009. • Presented “The past, Present, and Future of Accounting” at New York Academic Forum held by Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York on October 23,2009.

  8. VI. Join Fulbright Activities • Fulbright Summer Rooftop Gathering at NYC, August 2009. • International Fulbrighters Gathering at NYU, October 2009. --- Introduced pictures of Jade Mountain (with all my family members on it) and Grand Hotel.

  9. VII. Conclusions • Prepare everything early. • If you need to extend DS-2019 and J-1 Visa, do it as early as possible. • Bring some cards, souvenirs, and some of your life photos. • Keep your international driver’s license, local driver’s license (Taiwan), and national ID card with you. • Have a good journey.
