  2. Dog Behavior therapy defined • Dog behavior therapy focuses on the behaviors or expressed attitudes of the dog. • Then dog behaviorist modify the dog’s problem behavior into a more suitable and content manner.

What types of dog problems do dog behaviorist encounter? • Anti -Social behavior - Towards Dogs, Humans and other animals • Aggression - Dog to Dog and Dog to Human as well as other forms of aggression • Separation Anxiety • Prey Chasing- including cars, Traffic etc • Excessive Territorial behavior • Nervous behavior and Phobias • Inter- Dog aggression - Break down of relationship between dogs in same household • Normal but inappropriate behavior that could lead to abandonment or relinquishment (and euthanasia)

  4. How do dog behaviorist help the dog? • Dog behaviorist may go to the dog’s house. To treat the pooch in its natural environment and eliminate any external variables. • Dog behaviorist may also bring the dog back to their facility among other dogs to help adjust them to the pack order. The pack order is the dog following his/her leader.

What will help a dog? • It Depends on the problem. • For canines suffering from separation anxiety, there are multiple ways to help: • Do Not Punish the dog, as this will only further anxiety. • Never make a fuss when one leaves or comes back home. • Make the dogs feel comfortable by themselves. You can do this with special treats or toys left out only when they are left alone.

Great Side Hardwork, but worth it side • Being self employed and running your own business. • Working with dogs and people • Improving the dog’s quality of life as well as the human’s quality of life. • Long hours: Average day is from 7am to 9pm • Working 7 days a week to fit in all the clients • Seeing some dogs in a very unsuitable environment

How can I become a dog behaviorist? • To progress in this field you need to have a Masters degree and to become very successful or TOP DOG, you need a doctorate degree. • Some good schools for an education in dog behavior therapy are: • American College of Applied Science • Animal Behavior College • Compass education • Animal Care college • Kennel Club (UK)
