  1. Howard Aiken By Luis Alberto Zazueta

  2. Howard Aiken was born march 8, 1990 in Hoboken, New Jersey. He grew up in Indianapolis and attended Arsenal Technical High School. After his graduation from high school he studied in the University of Wisconsin and got his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. In 1935 he decided to go back to school and get his Ph.D. from Harvard University. He died on march 14,1973 in St. Louis. Background

  3. The idea • While he was at the university he though of making a machine that would help you in the difficult calculations. • He stared making research and later he got IBM to found his idea. • It took seven years for the computer to be made and able to operate. • Computer was called the IBM Automatic Sequence Controlled calculator, or Mark 1.

  4. Mark 1 • The Mark 1 was a huge computer it had 750,000 parts. • It was 51 feet wide and 2 feet deep. • 3 addition or subtraction problems per second. • One multiplication problem in six seconds. • It also can do trigonometric problems in a minute or a little more. • It was working 24/7 for 15 years and it never got an answer wrong.

  5. What it means today • I think his accomplishment was very important because he is the one who influenced a lot of people to research in this topic and keep improving computers. • He might be the reason why we have lap tops and a lot of other stuff.
