  1. IKONOS Accuracy Image Collection Use • Simultaneous Pan and Multispectral images • 1m panchromatic pixels • 4m multispectral pixels(Blue, Green, Red, NIR) • Linear detector arrays scan in any direction • Swath width >11 km Photogrammetry Use • 680-km near-polar, sun-synchronous orbit. • GPS receivers determine Ephemeris • Gyros & Star Trackers determine Attitude. • Solid state focal plane with calibrated interior orientation. • Same pass stereo imaging.

  2. Metric Accuracy Without GCP’s Requirements: - 25.4 meter CE90 Horizontal accuracy with 1 stereo pair - 22.0 meter LE90 Vertical accuracy with 1 stereo pair - 12.2 meter CE90 Horizontal accuracy with 3 stereo pairs - 10.0 meter LE90 Vertical accuracy with 5 stereo pairs x Stable Optical Platform Ephemeris Absolute Attitude Knowledge - PAD Ground Processing Verification by On-Orbit Acceptance Test and periodic retest.

  3. Accuracy Test without Ground Control • MTF target is check point. • Accuracy without ground control • ~8 meters CE90

  4. History of Roll Angle Tests

  5. History of Pitch Angle Tests

  6. Metric Accuracy With GCP’s Precision Camera Relative Attitude Knowledge Ground Processing • Mapping (1:2,400) • - 2 meter Horizontal Accuracy • - 1 meter GSD • Requires • - Mono image within 10° of nadir • - GCP every 6km along image strip • - Stereo image (or 3m LE90 DEM)

  7. Interior Orientation Test

  15. Space Imaging Products (*) Accuracy does not include effect of terrain displacement

  16. Georectification to constant height Orthorectification with Digital Elevation Model Rectification

  17. Terrain Displacement • Terrain Displacement: Horizontal position shift caused by vertical errors. • Georectified images DV = Terrain height – Reference height • Orthorectified images DV = Terrain height – DEM height EL = Sensor Elevation Angle DV = Vertical Displacement DH = Horizontal Displacement

  18. Horizontal Accuracy Horizontal Accuracy to International Map Scale Requirement 2.0M (90% CE) = 1: 2,500 Ground Control 12.2M (90% CE) = 1:25,000 25.0M (90% CE) = 1:50,000 Uncontrolled One Meter Image of Mountain View, California

  19. Vertical Accuracy Vertical Accuracy to International Map Scale Requirement 3.0 m (90% CE) = 1: 2,500 Ground Control 11.5 m (90% CE) = 1:25,000 15.0 m (90% CE) = 1:50,000 Uncontrolled Rendered Scene of San Jose, California (Not representative of Space Imaging Product)

  20. IKONOS Pixels • 4 meter multi-spectral pixels(Blue, Green, Red, NIR)~ Landsat Bands 1 - 4 • 1 meter panchromatic pixels • High resolution texture • Simultaneously collected • Solid state image detectors • Digital recording & transmission • 11-bit grayscale resolution • Swath width • 13816 pan pixels • 3454 MSI pixels

  21. IKONOS Multispectral Calibration Note: Calibrations apply to imagery processed after 2/22/01. See SE-REF-016 for details & history. • IKONOS multi-spectral bands match Landsat bands 1-4. • IKONOS multi-spectral images have absolute radiometry.
