  2. Using Columns to create Newsletters • Columns are often used to create documents such as brochures and newsletters. Arranging text in columns often makes text easier to read and provides more visual interest.

  3. Newsletters.... • Are one of the best ways to communicate a variety of information to a wide range of people.

  4. A Well Planned Newsletter will: • Be attractive and easy to read • Use graphics and other desktop publishing features to attract readers’ attention.

  5. Standard Elements/Parts of a Newsletter • Nameplate/masthead • Date line • Headline • Body Text • Credits

  6. Nameplate/Masthead • Section located on the first page giving the name of the newsletter, organization and possible logo. It may sometimes include a tagline.

  7. Date line • Line under the nameplate that includes the volume number, issue number, and the date of publication.

  8. Headline • Large-type title stating the subject of an article (sometimes lists the byline).

  9. Credits Body Text • The information in an article • A list of the names and locations of the newsletters staff.
