  4. Key issues: Research • Need stronger empirical research • Need to disaggregate data when looking at diverse populations • 2 key gaps: • attracting and retaining diverse student teachers • education of teacher educators

  5. Key issues: Policy • Weak links between initial and in-service teacher education • Need to improve attraction and retention of diverse student teachers • Measuring effectiveness: Lack of evaluation of teacher practices

  6. Next steps • Publication (end 2009) • Launch of empirical phase • Call for interest • Case studies/Thematic seminars • Linking research to practice: tools teachers can adapt to their own classrooms
