Work plan ·Extract kafirin protein from available sorghum bran sources ·Meanwhile, investigate conditions of tropical and deciduous fruits and cashew nuts after harvest ·Develop coating techniques ·Evaluate quality of coated fruit and cashew nuts ·Investigate release from kafirin films and thermoplastic kafirin ·Test coated fruit and cashew nuts under real conditions

  7. Work packages • 1. Establishment of base-line data of fruits and cashew nuts - CSIR • 2. Isolation and optimisation of protein extraction procedures, and preparation and chemical modification of film materials - UP • 3. Analysis and physical properties of protein, films and coatings - IFR • 4. Investigation of thermoplasticity of film materials and development of thermoplastic processing techniques - ITMC • 5. Development of coating techniques for fruits and cashew nuts - UEM • 6. Evaluation of the quality of coated fruits and cashew nuts – UOM • 7. Investigation of release of components from coatings and films to fruit and nuts • 8. Commercial testing of improved products and technology transfer - CSIR
