Cut out every word that can be spared. Get rid of “due to the fact that” and “in order to” and all other wordy constructions
that don’t say anything.
Almost all clauses can
be reduced in some way –
use appositives or phrases
Circle verbs and
intensify the weak ones. Eliminate is, was, were and other forms of ‘to be’
Find the very BEST words
For the audience and purpose.
Move them behind the nouns. Pack this sentence:
“A proposal presented by Derek Bok, the president of Harvard,
Pack it to “Harvard president Derek Bok’s proposal failed.”
