  7. SPIRITWEAR • Spirit Wear is on display and can be ordered tonight in the cafeteria! • Order Spirit Wear online thru September 6th. Delivery will be on or before September 20th.

  8. Veronica Dawson School Nurse If your child becomes ill during the school day, the nurse will call you to pick up your child. If your child calls you first instead of going to see the nurse, please instruct them to go see the nurse, and then you will be called.

  9. Immunization Requirement • Proof of T-dap must be on file • State law requires exclusion from school of students after 9/10/2013, who have not provided proof that the student has received Tdap.

  10. After School Sports/Activities • It is the parents responsibility to notify the coach or club sponsor of any medical issues related to the student. • If medications are needed during the sport or club activities, the parent needs to notify the school nurse so we can discuss obtaining physician orders. • The nurse will train the coaches and club sponsors if needed. • Notification needs to be done for each new sport or club the student attends

  12. The Navigator Newsletter Our school’s newsletter, The Navigator, will be e-mailed home to all parentsthis year. If you do not have access to an e-mail account or wish to receive a printed copy, please make sure you complete the form that will be sent home in the first-day packets.

  15. 1. What time does school start and end? School starts at 8:02 and ends at 3:07.

  16. 2. Do I have to ride the bus to school? No, but we highly recommend it! X X Students may not be dropped off at these locations. X

  17. 3. If my son/daughter needs to leave school for any reason, what do I do? • Fill out a “Parent Communication” form and send it into school. Student is responsible for turning it into the front officeafter checking in with their first bell teacher. • You will need your photo ID to pick up your child. (If it is not the parent or an older sibling picking up the student, the adult picking up needs to be listed on the EMR form.) • Student is responsible to be in the lobby at pick up time so we do not have to interrupt classes with reminder calls.

  18. 4. What do I wear to school? Presentable clothes. Read dress code carefully!

  19. 5. When do I eat lunch? • During your 5th bell class. You have 49 minutes of class and 30 minutes for lunch. • Sodas and energy drinks are not to be brought to school. • Only two snacks will be permitted.

  20. 6. Where do I find my locker? Your locker is near your 7th bell class in most circumstances. Larger classes may be assigned differently (i.e. choir).

  21. 7. What do I need for the first day of school? Paper, pen/pencil, your summer reading book and assignment. Check school supply list.

  22. 8. Can I carry my book bag to classes on the first day of school? Yes.

  23. 9. Am I allowed to carry my book bag to my classes once I’ve been assigned a locker? No.

  24. 10. Can I bring my own computer? Yes, you must register the device and complete modules to receive an “Aviator Boarding Pass” on Parent Portal! BYOD is OPTIONAL and your RESPONSIBILITY.

  25. 11. If I forget something like my lunch, athletic equipment, or assignments, can my parents drop it off? Yes, but we do not interrupt classes, so you will need to check the Sports Drop Off Box in the lobby or the front desk between classes to see if it has arrived.

The Aviator Bell • Between 4th and 5th period - 11:32-11:59 a.m.! • 27 minutes long • Un-graded • Heterogeneous groupings • Announcements – use planner • Monday: Character Traits are highlighted each week and challenges are presented to live our Pillars of Character! Respect, Responsibility, Pride, Integrity, Generosity, Citizenship • Tuesday – Friday: Academic Assistance, Study skills, organization, service activities, test-taking skills, homework help, SSR, assemblies, intervention/enrichment, etc.

  29. 14. If I have a question/concern what do I do? Talk with the person closest to issue (call or e-mail). • Classroom/curriculum/grades teacher/counselor • Schedule counselor • Attendance, records, fees secretaries • Safety administrators When in doubt – press “0”, we will help guide you.

What Can I do as a Student to be a Successful at SJH? • Come to school every day! • Be on time for school every day! • Get involved. • Do your homework every day. • Follow the rules every day. • Respect yourself and others (peers, teachers, parents) at all times. • If you need help, ask someone!

What can I do as a parent to help my child be successful at SJH? • Send your child to school! • Make sure they get here on time if you transport them. • Get involved. • Make a plan for homework and stick to it. • Check Parent Portal…be a cheerleader! • Encourage them to fix own mistakes – make no excuses. You make difference!
