NGO Coalitions and NGOs Contributions to the ECOSOC Work for LDCs: New York – Jan./May 04 NGO survey launched in January 2004 by NGO Section/DESA in cooperation with CONGO and WFUNA to : - Highlight the activities of 135 NGOs from 46 countries to meet LDCs’ population crucial needs - Promote exchange of NGO innovative experiences, best practices and success stories in LDCs

    5. NGO Coalitions and NGOs Contributions to the ECOSOC Work for LDCs: New York – Jan./May 04 2. Dialogue on “Achieving the MDGS in the LDCs: Challenges and Choices”, organized on 4 March 2004 by WFUNA with NGO Section and OHRLLS support. 80 participants including diplomats, NGO representatives, and secretariat staff attended the Meeting NGO Panel – 18 March 2004 with 150 participants and panelists from developed, developing countries and LDCs: “Developing and enhancing the General Voluntary Trust Fund for UN-NGO-IRENE with NGOs, IGOs, Foundations, Governments, Local Authorities and Donor Community”

    6. NGO Coalitions and NGOs Contributions to the ECOSOC Work for LDCs: New York – Jan./May 04 NGO Forum – 18 March 2004 with 150 participants. It underlined the importance and necessity of NGO contribution in promoting: - Development at the grassroot level - Global advocacy on issues that are of particular concern to LDCs such as resource mobilization at the international level 5. Meeting of LDCs Focal Points organized in May 2004 by OHRLLS with NGO Section/DESA support to enhance networking and collaboration for LDCs

NGO Coalitions and NGOs Contributions to the ECOSOC Work for LDCs: Tunisia – May 2004 International E-Gender Forum organized by Tunisian Mothers Association on “ Impact of ICT on the advancement of Women and Family Rights within Sustainable Development: for a Digital Culture without Exclusion” 60 NGO/CSO participants and international competences from DESA, ECA, UNESCO, CONGO, African Union, European Union, League of Arab States, Arab Maghreb Union, Arab International Women’s Forum and WFO highlighted the ICT role for Gender Equality, Women Empowerment, Handicapped involvement and contribution to LDCs’ Development Forum also contributed to the WSIS second phase of Tunis November 2005

NGO Coalitions and NGOs Contributions to the ECOSOC Work for LDCs: Mauritania – April 04 Regional Workshop on “French-speaking African LDCs’ NGO/CSO capacity building in resources mobilization and enabling environment for poverty eradication and sustainable development” 85 participants representing 7 African LDCs (Burkina Faso, Central African Republic, Guinea, Togo, Senegal, Niger and Mauritania) Statement for ECOSOC HLS : “Déclaration des ONG des PMA Africains Francophones” including practical and useful proposals and recommendations focusing on HRD, Resources Mobilization based especially on LDCs’ Natural Resources/Potentialities, and partnership Successful example of partnership initiative between civil society Governments, UNDP and UNDESA

NGO Coalitions and NGOs Contributions to the ECOSOC Work for LDCs: Brazil – March 2004 Legion of Good Will organized a Seminar “Latin America - Africa to eradicate poverty in LDCs” especially in Portuguese speaking African LDCs focusing on : - Peace Culture and Social Development for jobs and income - Gender equity and women empowerment; - HIV/AIDS - Resource Mobilization and Global partnerships for SD - Integrated Approach for poverty alleviation & SD for LDCs - Capacity building and training for Portuguese speaking LDCs 52 participants: 37 NGOs and 15 Government representatives from Mozambique, Cape Verde and Brazil

NGO Coalitions and NGOs Contributions to the ECOSOC Work for LDCs: India – March 2004 With grassroot NGOs, Local Authorities, Corporate Sector, Target groups and United Nations, “Friends’ Society in Social Service” held a Regional Workshop - A Statement to the ECOSOC - A comprehensive pilot programme on “Integrated Rural Development for Poverty Eradication in India LDAs and LDCs of South Asia” formulated with the support of UN-NGO- IRENE

NGO Coalitions and NGOs Contributions to the ECOSOC Work for LDCs: Spain – May 2004 Interregional Workshop organized by the Foundation for the Promotion of Social Culture in partnership with the Euro Arab Network of NGOs for Development and Integration (READI) for NGOs representing 15 countries: Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Lebanon, Palestine, Italia, Spain, Jordan, Mauritania, Uganda, Democratic Republic of Congo, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Paraguay and Bolivia. It emphasized on: - Families and Women roles and contribution to LDCs’ development - Partnerships for Enhanced Cooperation between Euro-Mediterranean region and LDCs to promote exchange of experiences and partnership grass-root projects and programmes with all stakeholders and especially the United Nations

NGO Coalitions and NGOs Contributions to the ECOSOC Work for LDCs: Canada – February 2004 FORUM to launch UN-NGO-IRENE / Canada and prepare a consolidated Statement for the 2004 ECOSOC HLS on behalf of 42 Canadian NGOs, and a Youth Forum Focus on: Good Governance, Professional Ethics, Enabling Environment in LDCs to strengthen the impact of NGO work for LDCs’ Sustainable and integrated Development for All

NGO Coalitions and NGOs Contributions to the ECOSOC Work for LDCs: Dubai / Japan – February 2004 Dubai : Zayed International Prize for the Environment is: Expanding the scope of the Zayed Prize to MDGs in LDCs Establishing a permanent seat for the ECOSOC President Japan : Peace Boat organized a “Northeast Asia Regional Consultation Meeting on the Role of Civil Society in the Prevention of Armed Conflicts” to strengthen CSO capacity in this field, especially in North Korea, Mongolia and China.

NGO Coalitions and NGOs Contributions to the ECOSOC Work for LDCs: ECOSOC HLS of 28-30 June 2004 18 NGO Statements to the HLS ( 3 NGO Coalitions and 15 NGOs) based on recommandations and proposals of regional and national meetings and field experiences LDC Watch Panel of 28 June 2004 with the support of DESA and OHRLLS discussed concrete proposals for LDCs’ poverty eradication and sustainable development focusing on: Political Will, Networking, Training and Cooperation among NGOs and with Governments, Private sector and the United Nations
