  • Many people would prefer a more spatially oriented toolset.
  • Spatially correct layout is imperative as we move more and more towards full 3D modeling.

  • Consolidate utility civil technology toolset into a unified codebase.
  • Native integration with MicroStation:
    • Leverage integration with Bentley Map, Civil products and other Bentley products.
    • Improve user experience for civil project design involving a complete range of subsurface utility commodities.
  • Integrated analytics with no data-exchange protocols or cumbersome external application synchronizations

Feature Based Design
  • Like Civil, SUDA will use feature definitions to control symbology and drive engineering processes.
  • Unlike Civil, this will not be a phased evolution where native libraries are preserved for a time.
  • Instead, there will be an import tool which “converts” from native files to new feature definition libraries.
  • SUDA Feature Definitions:
    • Nodes
    • Conduits
    • Catchments

Planning For the Future
  • Subsurface Utilities will eventually replace Civil utilities toolsets (GEOPAK Drainage, MX Drainage and InRoads S&S)
  • In short term, SUDA may coexist with Civil utilities tools.
  • Subsurface Utilities will be included in Civil installation and provide core basic functionality.
  • Where “advanced” hydraulic design needs exist then a smaller number of “advanced” licenses can be maintained.
    • The boundary between basic and advanced has not yet been determined.
    • “Advanced” licenses include Civil Storm, Water CAD, Water GEMS and Sewer GEMS.
