Reminder what SQA say about analysis marks. • 0-1 style narrative. No attempt to answer question. • 2-3 style MAINLY narrative but does make brief attempt to answer question. • 4-5 Evidence used to develop and support main argument of essay which is directly focused on essay. • 8-10 Argument sustained and balanced with awareness od alternative interpretations OR historical debate.
First sentence/topic sentence of paragraph: evaluate use words that suggest you are making a judgement e.g. very, quite, important reason etc • Describe factor/ development • Comment/analyse this in terms of the question • Answer the Question (ATQ)
Now its your turn: Construct an argument • Choose an essay you might get in an exam • Now decide on factual information that is important is important in the answer to the essay you choose • Put a sentence IN FRONT OF IT that signpost the argument for you (and the mark) • Now comment on the information AFTER your description of it, but remember to do this in terms of the question asked • Now you have a basic argument
