UH Environment Overview The University of Houston System includes: • UH Main Campus • UH-Downtown • UH-Clear Lake • UH-Victoria • UH-Fort Bend Plus, 4 off-campus learning institutes: West Houston Institute at Cinco Ranch, the North Houston Institutes, UH System at Fort Bend, and the University Center (The Woodlands)

Network Infrastructure: Current environment Network design • consists of a flat, bridged configuration currently undergoing conversion to a routed, sub-netted configuration DNS • Currently handled by 3 Unix\Linux machines • Structure includes DNS resolution for some of the other UH campuses DHCP • Currently handled by 2 Linux machines • Available for campus-wide use • Utilizes two non-overlapping scopes for address assignment

Characteristics Current Domain Structure • Multiple domains with one or more administrators • No way to sub-divide domain management • Multiple trust relationships without uniformity…increased opportunity for problems • IT responsibilities encompass both Academic and Administrative domains, but not campus-inclusive
