Graduation Requirements • To be awarded a degree from Mount Olive College, a student must: • Be in good standing at the College • Must complete at least 64 semester hours for the Associate degree and a 126 semester hours for the Baccalaureate degree with a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0 on all studies at Mount Olive College with no grade lower than C on required major courses. • Complete minimum residence-hour requirements: 18 semester hours in residence for an Associate degree - 32 semester hours in residence, of which at least 18 semester hours must be in the major for the Baccalaureate degree • Fulfill all College and Departmental assessment requirements

  3. How do I know if I am on track for Graduation? • You must schedule an appointment to check your progress toward graduation. • Students from the Mount Olive and Goldsboro locations will contact the Registrar’s Office. • Students from Jacksonville, New Bern, Research Triangle Park, Washington and Wilmington locations will contact their respective location.

  4. Applying for Graduation • File an application for graduation by March 15th for the May Commencement, May 1st for the August Commencement, and October 15th for the December Commencement, and pay to the Business Office a nonrefundable graduation fee. • Students from the Mount Olive and Goldsboro locations will file with the Registrar’s Office. • Students from Jacksonville, New Bern, Research Triangle Park, Washington and Wilmington locations will file with their respective location..

  5. Graduation Tickets Tickets for graduation are limited to 6 per graduate (4 for the Commencement in Kornegay Arena and 2 for the Live Feed in the Southern Bank Auditorium. Please see your Location Representative if you have not received your tickets.

  6. Cap & Gowns/ Invitations • Cap & Gowns and Invitations will be available for pick-up during the month prior to graduation at the Mount Olive College Bookstore during the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday – Thursday and 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Friday. (919)658-2502, ext. 1300 or 1301.

  7. Academic Distinction • Baccalaureate candidates must have earned 45 graded semester hours in residence at Mount Olive College and must have met one of the following GPA’s to graduate with distinction: • Summa Cum Laude: (3.90 – 4.00) with no grade lower than a C will receive a Gold Cord and a Summa Seal on diploma • Magna Cum Laude: (3.80 – 3.89) with no grade lower than a C will receive a Silver Cord and a Magna Seal on diploma • Cum Laude: (3.70 – 3.79) with no grade lower than a C will receive a Bronze Cord and a Cum Seal on diploma • Associate degree candidates meeting the above requirements will receive a Green Cord and a Honors Seal on diploma.

  8. HONOR CORDS • Honor cords will be available on the day of graduation and will be given out by the Registrar’s Office. • Candidates who meet the honor requirements may pick-up their cord on the day of graduation at the Pope Wellness Center during line-up between the hours of 12:50 – 1:45. • Note: There is no charge for Honor cords.

  9. Baccalaureate Service • The Baccalaureate Service will be held at Rodgers Chapel at 10:30 a.m. on the day of graduation. • Line-up is at 10:00 a.m. in the Henderson Building. Graduates are required to wear their Cap and Gown.

  10. Graduation Luncheon • The Graduation Luncheon will be held at the Murphy Regional Center at 11:30 a.m. • Tickets may be purchased at the door. • Graduates are FREE • Adults are $7.00 • Children 12 and under are $3.50

  11. Graduation Line-up • The graduation line-up will take place at Pope Wellness Center at 12:50 p.m. Please check with one of the Registrar’s Staff to receive your line-up card. The academic procession will begin at 1:50 p.m.

  12. Graduation Dress Code • Graduates are required to wear academic attire and will enter in a formal processional for the Baccalaureate Service and Commencement.

  13. Commencement • Commencement will begin at 2:00 p.m. in Kornegay Arena. Note: family and guests must be seated by 1:45 p.m. Doors will open at 12:30 p.m. for early seating.

  14. Obtaining Your DiplomaThe Registrar’s Office will mail your diploma to the address noted on your application for graduation form once you have completed all requirements by the deadlines posted for graduation.

  15. Outstanding Requirements • Outstanding Requirements that may prevent you from receiving your diploma are: • * Library issues • Books or fees not cleared • *Business Office and Financial Aid issues • Accounts not cleared • *Academic Requirements • Final Grades • Official Transcripts from other institutions

  16. Graduation Photos • A professional photography service will take individual photographs of each graduate as they receive their diploma.
