  1. Master of Technology Management [MTM] Important Changes to the Master of Industrial Technology [MIT] Degree

  2. Master of Industrial Technology • Previously our program was termed Master of Industrial Technology. • We had a specialization in Manufacturing and one in Quality Systems. • There has been a Quality Systems Certificate which was not degree bearing, but was planned as a step-stone approach where the student would receive the QS certificate and could then go on to receive a master’s degree.

  3. Master of Technology Management • MIT has been officially changed to MTM. • The Manufacturing Specialization is now an Engineering Technology Specialization. • The Quality Certificate is part of the newly named program. • The Quality Systems Specialization Degree remains unchanged.

  4. Master of Technology Management • Both the Engineering Technology and Quality Systems specializations are even more relevant and marketable under the new program name. • Engineering technology is a name that works well for instructors in community colleges and is better than Manufacturing. It also is more representative of what our program is in industry. • The MTM fits Quality Systems programs better as they use business and management concepts in much of the curriculum.

  5. MTM Draft Plan • Develop a marketing plan for the MTM ENGT and QS specializations. • We need to edit our portion of the BGSU Web Presence. We have already done this in terms of the graduate college, but need to review the College of Technology Web presence. • Bulletin boards. • Brochures. • Flyers and posters for local community colleges, and other four year colleges and universities. • Get an MTM ENGT and QS feature in the local newspapers.

  6. MTM Draft Plan • Change the business courses to other options that our students can enroll in—which may include development of new courses by us—as well as identifying new courses internal and external to the department and college. • Develop a recruitment calendar for ECT, ENGT, AVS to assure that we get highly qualified future graduate students—both internal and external to the department. • Develop a plan for the creation of ECT and AVS specializations in the MTM program.

  7. MTM Draft Plan • We need to review the ENGT and ECT course offerings e to assure they are contemporary and include the new direction of the ENGT emphasis. • Change the prefix in the ENGT program from TECH to ENGT. • Review the Grad Step needs for [end of summer – fall] 2010. • Develop a plan for taking the MTM totally online. • Develop a stronger system for advising and assigning advisors. • Develop systems for comprehensive examinations as the final step for graduation.
