Readout robustness ( Optical readout replaces 50-pin SC cables having up to 14.5m length) 4. Tests on Disks • Installed CSC should be connected to the VME electronics and tested with small FASTDAQ setup (LV tests). • In the case of board failure after installation CSC should be extracted and board changed. • There should be more time reserved for CSC installation than that for extraction.   14. Electronics tests at ISR and on- chamber integration • It is very important to know how much the boards installation and test work takes. For this we need to work with a CSC fully equipped with the new electronics. • Now at ISR we test new LVDB with 7 CFEBs installed on spare ME1/1 CSC • On-chamber integration (drawings in preparation): - Optical cables routing and optical P.Panel position, - New cables: LV, in ME1/1a: Strip readout and DCEB-DCFEB - Mechanical works for ME1/1a area: new screens and support details - CFEB & ALCT covers to be machined to match DCFEB geometry • End of this year – out of ISR…. ->SX5? Conclusion • The Upgrade of ME1/1 electronics is important and challenging • The work to be done during LS1 • A lot of things not yet defined and scheduled • On-chamber Integration work is going on • Problem with Testing/ Assembling areas – place to be defined V.Perelygin CMS Upgrade Week and Workshop Nov. 08-2011

Extraction/ Installation Procedure • Works to done beforehand (Cherry picker needed ): Sealing opening, P.Panel opening, Cables disconnection Could be done at any time before chamber extraction for a number of CSC. Preparation for 4 CSCs – one day. • Preliminary operations (if some EMU CSC work): - HV zeroed for CSC to be extracted and other 3 CSC in the same gas chann. - Corresponding Maraton switch off → 9 ME1/1,2,3 CSC off (trigger sector) - Gas channel on the ME1/1 gas panel disconnected • Main work (Cherry picker +Crane) needed : - preparations in UXC (Loading machine posts installation, Cooling channel off, Gas/water pipes) - CSC extraction (loading), (2-3 CSC / 8hours). • Subsequent works - Services back (water, gas, LV) - HV ON V.Perelygin CMS Upgrade Week and Workshop Nov. 08-2011
