  4. Schedule

  5. What are we doing? • Progression – Today, you will work on Run-ons and sentence fragments. Read page 344 in the Writing and Grammar textbook and complete the exercise (31) at the bottom. Then, read page 345 and complete exercise 32 on page 346. Submit your answers to me using Google docs with the keyword “run-frag.” See me for the answer key when you finish. If this exercise does not make sense to you, write me a not in Google docs with the Keyword: “confused”

  6. What are we doing? • Reflection – Write a three paragraph reflective writing piece that addresses how the year has gone for you so far in English 8: what did you think of the novel? Are there things that were taught that you still are not sure you know well yet? What do you like least about English 8 and what do you like most about English 8? What would you like individual assistance with learning in the poetry unit? Keyword – MP1

  7. What are we doing? • Inquiry/Research – The curriculum requires that students be given the opportunity to investigate, through non-fiction literature, details specific to the information presented in the unit. This novel unit was set in the 1960s in a world of adolescent drug and alcohol abuse, poverty, gangs, racism, and hippies. Investigate further on your own during this period. Do the webquest and learn more— • go to Mr. Logan’s webpage, click “progressive worksheets” • click SE Hinton Webquest • Follow the directions printed there • Keyword: 1960s

  8. Peer Share • If you have had your Inquiry/Research Day – share the results of your webquest. Your next step is to create a Prezi or animoto presentation to share what you learned with Mr. Logan and the class. • If you have not had your Inquiry/Research Day Yet – log into Google drive and share your “ending” reflection with all members of your group and allow editing. Peer edit together each assignment, one student at a time until the group has collectively read each other’s responses. • If there is time for another round of peer sharing, share your “newsweek” assignments. Your next group day will be writing conferencing with Mr. Logan. • Go to Progressive Worksheets – choose ”In the News” directions, effective 10-28-2013. These are your directions for next cycle’s news story. They are due on your next peer share day and will be saved as keyword “newsweek2.”

  9. What are we doing? • Conference– This cycle’s conference will be time to share the “Wanted” posters, your “ending” reflection, and your “newsweek” assignments with Mr. Logan for feedback. Mr. Logan will also share with you how short writing assignments will be GRADED from now on.
