  1. Warm-up Wednesday/Thursday October 29/30 Solve 2x + y = 93x – y = 16

  2. Homework Questions?? So Substitution is my personal least favorite method of solving systems of equations. Some like it, some don’t. I am one that prefers another route.

  3. There is another way!! Elimination!! Let’s rework the warm-up using elimination just so we can see that it will work as well. 2x + y = 93x – y = 16 Then substitute x=5 into the other equation 5x      = 25 2(5) + y = 9  10 + y = 9y = –1 So x=5 Then the solution is (x, y) = (5, –1)

  4. ADD!!!!!!!

  5. Solvebyelimination x – 2y = –9x + 3y = 16 In order to eliminate these, you must use SUBTRACTION but don’t forget to subtract EVERYTHING! x – 2y = -9 - (x + 3y = 16) -5y = -25 y = 5 x – 2(5) = –9x – 10 = –9x = 1 Then sustitute y=5 back into the other equation Then the solution is (x, y) = (1, 5)

  6. Multiply!!!!!!

  7. Solvebyelimination 4x – 3y = 25–3x + 8y = 10 In order to eliminate, you first have to MULTIPLY! Plug it back into the other equation y = 5 4x – 3(5) = 254x – 15 = 254x = 40x = 10 So the answer is (10, 5)

  8. Classwork/Homework Worksheet on Elimination
