Amery Hill School Getting the data to make a difference.......
The challenge is to move from being data rich to becoming information rich
Main strands in our strategy • Assessment for learning as part of best practice teaching: • As part of target setting agenda through SIMS / SISRA • Individually through review days and personal discussions with subject teachers to set targets • As part of performance management through SISRA • Through data ‘war room’ meetings
Assessment for learning Setting is NOT a strategy for resolving differentiation Largely from DfE The National Strategies
Making data accessible to teachers through SIMS Set up data sheets here as required by different departments. The aim is to put information at the fingertips.
FFT Live… chances graphs • Great for raising aspirations • Encourage discussion about what is needed to • change the chances for an individual
SISRA… saves HOURS and really delivers! • Used retrospectively to analyse GCSE results • Used proactively to forecast results so that necessary interventions can be put in place.
Data ‘war room’ meetings • Weekly meetings with SLT and Year Head and, in turn, heads of subject • Give clear focus on ‘state of the nation’ • Allow targets to be discussed and challenged • Targeted groups and • Seek to identify under-performance so interventions can be put in place • Stresses the importance of the use of data • Done in room with SIMS/SISRA projected so data is transparent to all.
Questions to ponder about in your schools... • How confident are you that appropriate data is available to all staff? • How confident are you in your predictions for next year? • How confident are you that pupils are working to ambitious targets? • How confident are you about the targeting of intervention strategies? • Who is best placed to take CHARGE of the data.. Is this SLT, or HoD, or the subject teacher?
