Chapter 4-Plot- Rising Action
  • Rising action is the part of the book leading up to the Climax.
  • Thomas wakes up in the box and does not know what is happening.
  • Thomas meets the Gladers and is helped by a kid named Chuck.
  • The day after Thomas comes out of the box, a girl rises from the hole. This had never happened before. Only one new person would come a month. And as she comes out of the box she is in a coma and stays in it for a while.
  • Thomas meets the leaders of the gladers, Newt and Alby.
  • Minho comes back from his job of a runner with important news. He had found a dead Griever. A griever is a cow shaped slug with arms with saws and points with poison.

Eventually they start to throw rocks off the cliff and suddenly one of them disappears which they think is where the grievers disappear to during the day. They call it the Griever hole.
  • Teresa wakes up from her coma and she has memories that are important to finding the answer to the maze and she tries to talk to Thomas in his head to get him to come to her so she can tell him the memories.
  • After Teresa wakes up the sun disappears from the sky the next day and at night the walls do not shut.
  • Grievers come every night to where all of the gladers are staying, the homestead, and they take one kid each night. Thomas has figured out that if you line up maps of the maze they make letters for a code.
  • Teresa, Chuck and some other gladers try to figure out the rest of the words while Thomas and Minho are out in the maze trying to figure out the Griever hole.
chapter 4 plot climax

P

Chapter 4-Plot- Climax

The climax is the part of the story which is like the big moment in the story where everything just comes together.

  • Teresa and Chuck find out the rest of the words from the maze maps. Thomas, Minho, Newt and Alby decide to go through the griever hole to get out of the maze. Some of the gladers there do not want to take the risk because they think that it is suicide.
  • Thomas leads the gladers to the cliff but they are not alone. There were lots of grievers there to give them a little goodbye. Eventually Thomas, Chuck, Teresa, Newt and Minho get through the grievers but the rest of the gladers are still fighting. Thomas, Teresa and Chuck go through the hole first and Minho stays behind to make sure no grievers come after them.
  • Thomas enters the words into a computer to shut the grievers down. After he does Minho jumps through the hole and they make their way through the tunnel.
  • They get to the end of the tunnel where the creators greet them but Gally is with them. The creator pulls out a throwing knife and throws it at Thomas but just then Chuck jumped in front of the knife and takes his life for Thomas’.
chapter 4 plot falling action

P

Chapter 4-Plot-Falling Action
  • The falling action is what happens after the climax.
  • People come bursting through the door of the laboratory and tells the creator to get down and step away from the kids. The people who busted through the door tell the kids to follow them out of the lab and outside there is a lady who is saying to help them from the flare. The guy told them not to listen and they got on the bus. Everybody is happy that they are out of the maze but no one knows what will happen next.
chapter 5 mood

Chapter 5-Mood

This for me is a rather good replica of the metallic rod coming out of the griever. http://www.thetechgame.com/Forums/p=15209473.html

Moodisthe felling a reader gets when reading the book.

In this story the mood changes various times.

The first example of this is at page 343 : “A skinny metallic rod burst out of the Grievers moist skin, unfolding into a long appendage with three spinning blades, which moved directly toward Thomas’s face.”(Dashner343) When I read this I feel fear for Thomas because his life is in danger.

chapter 5 mood continued

Chapter 5- Mood (continued)

This is a good representation of what Griever might look like. http://mazerunner.wikia.com/wiki/Grievers

Another example of mood is: “"It looked like an experiment gone terribly wrong-something from a nightmare. Part animal, part machine, the Griever rolled and clicked along the stone pathway. Its body resembled a gigantic slug, sparsely covered in hair and glistening with slime."(Dashner126)The mood is that there is a lot of suspense.

chapter 5 mood continued16

The closing doors represent when Thomas walks in as they close to save Alby and Minho. http://www.holyrosarycatholicschool.org/hrs/7th%20Classroom/Web%20Pages%202010/jessicar%20web%20page.htm

Chapter 5- Mood (continued)

"Thomas knew he had no choice. He moved. Forward. He squeezed past the connecting rods at the last second and stepped into the maze. The walls slammed shut behind him, the echo of its boom bouncing off the ivy-covered stone like mad laughter."(Dashner112)

We picked this part because we thought it very intriguing and it was scary as well.

chapter 6 theme and resolution

R

Chapter 6- Theme and Resolution

This is an example of a lab that looks like the one of the creators. antarctica.gov.au

The theme is the moral or the lesson of the story. The theme of the story is always be brave, never give up.

An example of this theme is when Thomas gets out in the maze to save Minho and Alby. A quote from the book to prove this is: "Thomas knew he had no choice. He moved. Forward. He squeezed past the connecting rods at the last second and stepped into the maze. The walls slammed shut behind him, the echo of its boom bouncing off the ivy-covered stone like mad laughter."(Dashner112)

Another example is when Chuck jumps in the way of the blade to save Thomas. This is an act of bravery.

The Gladers get out of the maze and the creators are revealed but they are not good people. They also learn about the Flare.
