  1. The Maze Runner By James Dashner

  2. Themes in The Maze Runner • A main theme in The Maze Runner is friendship can overcome many obstacles. This is shown when Thomas finds the exit to the maze, but only with the help of his friends fighting off the Grievers. Also, this theme is shown when Thomas helps Minho and Alby in the Maze by saving them from the Grievers.

  3. Themes in The Maze Runner II • Another theme in The Maze Runner is that no matter how bad things get you need to keep friends close. I believe this theme is important because the Gladers wouldn’t have been able to solve the maze without the help of everyone fighting off the Grievers.

  4. Themes in The Maze Runner III • ‘When it gets tough, never give up’ is another theme in The Maze Runner. If the Gladers had given up when the sun disappeared, they would’ve died immediately. However, they stuck together trying to figure out the maze, and they did, because they didn’t give up.

  5. Themes in The Maze Runner IV • Another theme of The Maze Runner is that you need other people to help you succeed, you cannot survive on your own. This theme is prevalent basically throughout the whole book because Thomas and the other Gladers each have a job they do to help the community survive.

  6. Themes in The Maze Runner V • The last theme, if this is one, is the need for structure in society. When the Gladers arrived in the center of the maze, they immediately set up a makeshift society. This society also helped them trust each other and ultimately get through the maze.

  7. Symbols in The Maze Runner • I believe a large theme of symbolism in the maze runner is the teenage boys stuck in the maze is like teenagers stuck in the maze of life. It doesn’t have a clear exit and it is dangerous and confusing.

  8. Symbols in The Maze Runner II • Another theme in the maze runner is the walls closing every night. This is a symbol of how us as a society has closed ourselves in our walls that we think are safe and impenetrable and give us a false sense of security, but we are really trapped inside our walls.

  9. Symbols in The Maze Runner III • Touching more upon teenagers, I believe another symbol would be how the walls are like the walls that trap teenagers, e.g. the limitations of school, parents, etc.

  10. Symbols in The Maze Runner IV • Yet another symbol in The Maze Runner is the Grievers representing authority figures, e.g. parents or police that may punish one for not going through the right paths through the ‘maze’ of life.

  11. Symbols in The Maze Runner V • Adding onto the previous symbolism, I believe the maze could be a metaphor/symbol of the rules and responsibilities of teenagers, like at school, at home, and in society.
