  1. Logo Graphic Production – Unit 30 Task 2 Ilfracombe Academy logo by Ashley Clews

  2. I started by using a template from http://vector-magz.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/shield-outline-vector.png and placing it in Photoshop

  3. I then duplicated this layer and free transformed it to make it smaller which give the shield a border.

  4. Next, I used the line tool to draw the barrier which separates the two halves of the design with room to place text.

  5. I then went on dafont.com and found an appropriate font which I then used for the writing on the logo

  6. I then set to work on my top graphic which I had planned to be a book. I used the line/pen tools to draw the design Then I merged all the involved layers together so the book would become one graphic.

  7. Due to complexity of my bottom design, I sourced http://sweetclipart.com/multisite/sweetclipart/files/imagecache/middle/graduation_line_art.png for a good graphic for me to place in the bottom halve of my logo in accordance with my plan. I then edited the graphic by removing the scroll with the eraser and drawing the other side of the hat with the

  8. I then added some colour to my design, using the fill bucket tool to colour my designs.

  9. As it is a church academy, I added a Christian cross design taken from (http://www.whychristmas.com/i/chrismons/chrismon-cross-large.png) which I also gave a border to using the same technique as before except this time I coloured it black so it stood out.

  10. With my draft logo complete I then produced a questionnaire which would give me information on how I could improve the logo

  11. The biggest criticism was the grey background colour used. I experimented with different colours using the fill tool and eventually selected a light orange t make the image more vibrant.

  12. The other point that respondents made was the empty space below the cap. To balance this I used a rounded rectangle of the border colour to give the shield a more balanced look.

  13. This is the finished logo which I saved in a PNG format to preserve the quality of the image.
