SPECIFIC USE OF SOME PREPOSITIONS 1) Time Prepositions Examples ``At´´ is used with hours At 14.00. o´clock i´m having lunch ``On´´is used with dates and week days On Friday I will go to the cinema ``In´´ is used with months and Seasons In summer I´ll go to the beach. ``Before´´is used with a done action I´ve done the homework before ``After´´ is used with a finished action I´ve went to the pub after my nap ``During´´is used when the action is being done He was killed during the speach

SPECIFIC USE OF SOME PREPOSITIONS 3) Movement Prepositions: She ran … to the door (movement towards a specific destination) through the tunnel (from one side of an enclosed space to the other) across the road (from one side of an open space to the other) along the road (the length of the road) down the road (the length of the road) over the bridge (from one side of an open space to the other) off the stage round the track into the room.

  9. Adverbs of manner: they answer the question HOW • Easily, slowly, quickly, carefully… • Ex. • The train is coming very slowly: there was an accident • Don't speak so quickly. I am trying to understand • Put in the disk carefully in the cdrom

  10. Adverbs of place: they answer the question WHERE • Here, there , away, above, everywhere… • Ex: • Please wait here...He'll be here soon • The Yeti lives right there....Behind those hills • The casino is three miles away...Can we go by taxi?

  11. Adverbs of time: they answer the question WHEN • Now, early, late, soon, tomorrow, yesterday, today • Ex: • Speak now or shut up for ever... • The doctor will be back soon • See you tomorrow, students

  12. Adverbs of frequency: they answer the question HOW OFTEN • Always, sometimes, seldom, never, often, every day • Ex: • She often goes alone • He never smokes cigarettes • Helen takes the boat to the island every day

  13. Adverbs of purpose: they answer the question WHAT FOR • In order to, so that • Ex: • She gets up early to get there early • He shops in several stores in order to get the best prices • He is working very hard so that he can buy a good car

  14. Adverbs of order: they answer the question IN WHAT ORDER • First, at first, then, secondly, at last, finally • Ex: • First, she picked the red, then, he chose the blue one • First of all, let me kiss your wife.... • At last he came back...
