  1. “Amos In A Mess” Sermon Series Message Four Today’s Message “Controversy and Questions”

Amo 3:1-3 Hear this Word that Yehovah has spoken against you, sons of Israel, against the whole family which I brought up from Egypt, saying, (2) You only have I the land of known of all the families of the earth; therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities. Israel’s Uniqueness Amos is speaking to all the tribes of Israel. Israel was the only nation on the earth that had a relationship/covenant with God. Their dishonor of Him required punishment.

  3. Question One: Can two walk together, except they be agreed?Amos 3:3

  4. Question Two and Three: Will a lion roar in the forest when he has no prey for him?Will a young lion cry out of his den unless he has caught? (4)

  5. Question four and five: Amo3:5 Can a bird fall in a snare upon the earth, where no gin is set for him? shall a snare spring up from the ground, and have taken nothing at all?

  6. Question six and seven: Amo 3:6 Shall the trumpet be blown in a city, and the people not be afraid? Shall evil befall a city, and Yehovah/The Lord hasn’t done it?

  7. God’s message To his prophets Amo3:7 For AdonayYehovah will do nothing unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets.Amo 3:8 The lion has roared; who will not fear? AdonayYehovah has spoken; who can but prophesy?

Amo3:9 Publish in the palaces at Ashdod, and in the palaces in the land of Egypt, and say, Assemble yourselves upon the mountains of Samaria, and behold the great tumults/disturbancein the midst thereof, and the oppressed in the midst thereof.(10) For they know not to do right, says Yehovah/the Lord, who store up violence and robbery in their palaces.   9. Not Much Left Amo 3:12 Thus says Yehovah/the Lord; As the shepherd takes out of the mouth of the lion two legs, or a piece of an ear; so shall the children of Israel be taken out that dwell in Samaria in the corner of a bed, and in Damascus in a couch.

  10. Lev 26:13-15 I am the Lord your God, who brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, from being their bondmen. And I have broken the bonds of your yoke, and made you go upright. (14) But if you will not listen to Me, and will not do all these commandments, (15) and if you shall despise My statutes, or if your soul hates My judgments, so that you will not do all My commandments, so that you break My covenant; … (28) Then will I also walk contrary unto you, and will punish you Sickness –defeats – powerlessness – unanswered prayers – poor harvest – dairy and meat reduction – poor produce – attacks from enemies – pestilence – food shortages – Famine – starvation - idols destroyed – cities destroyed – desolation brought to the land – fear Lev 26:40 If they shall confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, with their trespass which they trespassed against me, and that also they have walked contrary unto me… Lev 26:45 But I will for their sakes remember the covenant of their ancestors, whom I brought forth out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the heathen, that I might be their God: I am the LORD.

Amo 3:13-15 Hear, all of you and testify in the house of Jacob, says AdonayYehovah, the God of hosts/angelicarmies(14) That in the day that I shall visit the transgressions of Israel upon him I will also visit the altars of Bethel: and the horns of the altar shall be cut off, and fall to the ground. (15) And I will smite/strike the winter house with the summer house; and the houses of ivory shall perish, and the great houses shall have an end, says Yehovah/the LORD.
