  4. Sketchy Business • 25,000 dollar cashier’s check found in one burglar’s bank account • FBI relates the Watergate break in to CREEP • Some of Nixon’s top men are charged with conspiracy, burglary and wiretapping Watergate

  5. Deep Throat A person who gave very classified and illegal information to reporters at the Washington Post goes under the name Deep Throat to protect his true identity. All that is known about this person was that he was high up in the Executive Branch of the government.

  10. Saturday Night Massacre October 20, 1973 Nixon fires prosecutor Cox Archibald. In the process Attorney General Elliot Richardson and Deputy Attorney General William Ruckelshaus resign in refusal to do Nixon’s dirty work and fire Cox. President Ford Pardons Nixon • September 8, 1974: President Ford pardons former President Nixon for any crimes he might have committed during Watergate • Mixed reactions: • Democrats were mostly upset • Republicans sided with President Ford and saw it reasonable • However, there were mixed feelings across both parties • Why would President Ford do this? • “an act of mercy” • Nixon now had to testify in court without the protection of the fifth amendment
