Hypothesis The experimentation will show that 95% of Santa Clauses do not burn to cinders due air friction during gift distribution process. Focus Experimentation is focused on the temperature change caused by air friction. Land-based Santas are not considered in this experimentation. Also, traumatization of Rudolph due to burning Santa is not considered. Description of methods Following methods will be utilized to collect, process and analyze the data: 1. Continuous measurement of temperature and velocity produces triplets of time, velocity and temperature. Data is collected by tachometer and thermometer and sent to portable collection unit. Fs=100 Hz. 2. Transforming the data into format that can be used in Matlabproduces data file readable by Matlab from the triplets. 3. Regression analysis will produce an equation for a curve that fits the gathered data. In addition, the goodness of the fit will be measured. Additional step can be dropping erroneous measurements. Regression analysis will produce a curve that can be used to extrapolate the minimum velocity that is needed in order to cause Santa Claus catch fire. Due to the unknown properties of Santa’s clothing it can be reliably assumed that first thing that will catch fire is Santa’s beard in about 400 K.
