  1. WP1 Questionnaire Metadata Instructions in how to view, edit and add to the WP1 Questionnaire data stored in metadata structures Jane Patterson Version 1

  2. The aim of WP1.1 is to produce a web-based map of RTD activity in hydrogen and fuel cell technology To gather RTD information, R2H launched an on-line questionnaire for hydrogen researchers in May 2006 http://www.roads2hy.com/questionnaire The information from completed questionnaires is stored in a database on the project extranet https://www.rincex.com Requires user login and password This presentation explains how to view this questionnaire data in the extranet, how to edit it and how to add new entries Introduction

  3. Agenda / Contents • Introduction • Viewing Questionnaire Data • Adding a new Questionnaire entry to the data • Editing an existing Questionnaire entry

  4. The Questionnaire data base is stored in the Questionnaire folder in the WP1 directory of the Roads2HyCOM project area "Title" is the organisation that has completed the questionnaire Completed questionnaires are automatically added to the data base By "BN2" To view an entry, click on the organisation title … Viewing WP1 Questionnaire data on the extranet (1/4)

  5. Viewing WP1 Questionnaire data on the extranet (2/4) • Most of the questionnaire information is stored in its metadata structure • To view the metadata, click on 'Metadata' on the menu bar …

  6. Viewing WP1 Questionnaire data on the extranet (3/4) • This opens the Metadata Groups window • Select "Questionaire" from the Metadata Groups popup menu and click "Go" … • Note: It may take a few seconds to open the metadata

  7. Viewing WP1 Questionnaire data on the extranet (4/4) • The metadata appears in the window next to the metadata groups • Each metadata field refers to a questionnaire field • There are different types of metadata fields • E.g, text, popup menu, Yes | No | Null (used instead of check boxes) • To return to the list of questionnaire entries, click the "Return" button

  8. Agenda / Contents • Introduction • Viewing Questionnaire Data • Adding a new Questionnaire entry to the data • Editing an existing Questionnaire entry

  9. Adding a new entry of the WP1 Questionnaire data base (1/5) • To complete the RTD mapping it will be necessary to add questionnaire entries for the organisations that do not submit a questionnaire on-line • To add a new entry, click "Publish" in the Questionnaire folder …

  10. Adding a new entry of the WP1 Questionnaire data base (2/5) • Enter a suitable title (organisation name) and description (organisation type) • Don't complete "Document Tracking Number" • Click "Publish" to initialise this new entry …

  11. Adding a new entry of the WP1 Questionnaire data base (3/5) • To add information to this entry, click "Metadata" …

  12. Adding a new entry of the WP1 Questionnaire data base (4/5) • Select "Questionaire" from the Metadata Groups popup menu and click "Go" • Note: It may take a few seconds to load the metadata structure • Fill in the metadata structure for the new entry • Click "Save Metadata" regularly • When complete, click "Update Publishing" • Then click "Return" to return to the Questionnaire folder …

  13. Adding a new entry of the WP1 Questionnaire data base (5/5) • The new entry will appear at the top • Note: "By" records last user to modify an entry

  14. The metadata structure is based on the Questionnaire, which is based on the Technology Tree (see next slides) The metadata field entries are in the same order as the on-line Questionnaire The metadata does not have check boxes Therefore, for the Technology Tree options, select "Yes" if applicable and "No" if not applicable Note about metadata structure Production System, Primary Energy Source section of the Technology Tree

  15. A European map of research is being built using the technology tree The tree represents the potential layers for hydrogen and fuel cell technology The tree gives the basis of the technology categories which researchers can choose as their area of expertise General categories will be searchable on the map to look at regional differences in research The tree has been split into four sections: Production systems Distribution and storage Application Aerospace Industry The three main sections are divided to sub-categories, with further branches Specific partners have been allocated parts of the tree and tasked with developing a list of contacts for those branches R2H Technology Tree Production System Primary Energy Source Conversion to Hydrogen Storage and Distribution Pipelines Depot & Refuelling Storage System Application Transport Stationary Portable/Mobile Aerospace Industry The technology tree is used to assist in mapping hydrogen and fuel cell research

  16. Technology Tree: Production System R2H Technology Tree Production System Primary Energy Source Conversion to Hydrogen • Wind Energy • Solar Energy • Nuclear Energy • Coal • Oil • Natural Gas • Biogas • Liquid Biofuel • Biological Systems • Hydroelectric • Geothermal • Steam Reformer • Electrolyser • Steam Electrolysis • Partial Oxidation / Cermaic Membrane Reactor • Thermochemical Water Splitting • Photoelectrochemical Systems • Biological Systems • Gasification

  17. Technology Tree: Storage & Distribution R2H Technology Tree Storage and Distribution Pipelines Depot & Refuelling Storage System • Tankers (Gaseous) • Tankers (Liquid) • Tankers (Materials Based Storage) • Depot H2 Storage (Compressed) • Depot H2 Storage (Liquid) • On-site production • Materials-based H2 Storage • Compressed • Liquid • Materials based • Chemical
