  1. SecondWeek NewsFrom Sixth Grade • Dear parents, We have so much to be thankful for in 6th grade! Monday started with a very encouraging “praise and prayer” time in class. The students shared answers to prayer and examples of God’s blessings in their lives. In Bible we’ve been tackling tough questions in The Case for Christ. The students have been challenged to dig through the Bible to find answers to questions/objections to Christianity such as, “Did Jesus lie?” “Did Jesus have the attributes of God?” and “Was Jesus crazy?” On Friday, they’ll perform group skits and presentations to present their findings to the class. In math this week we’ve been solidifying our conceptual understanding of more complex multiplication and division and the relationship between the two. In writing we’re reviewing/practicing paragraph structure, focusing on word choice, practicing daily editing and grammar, and starting poetry. In reading we’ve continued with assessments, added new books to our “book boxes,” and practiced comprehension strategies from our “CAFÉ” menu. Finally, in science we started learning about the Portland bridges and went on a FANTASTIC field trip today!!! I am so thankful for the amazing weather, the amazing parents that came with, and an amazing time learning about bridges, ships, and Portland. • Reminders and updates: • Come view our new artwork and pictures on display in our hall and in the classroom • Make sure to sign your child’s homework journal and goals sheet for them to bring back on Monday • To help create/maintain an ideal learning atmosphere for everyone, I’d like the students to each bring deodorant with them to leave at school  • You can view this latest version of the newsletter along with recent class pics on our website at http://nelson6th.wordpress.com • We had a fabulous time building straw bridges with our little buddies last Friday!
