Important Dates Important Dates April 3- Moveable Monday, Theatre IV Assembly April 4- Spring Pictures April 8- PTA meeting, 7:00 pm April 9- Report Cards sent home April 14-18 SPRING BREAK April 29- Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast April 30- Spring Chorus Concert Math As we begin April, we will finish our unit on Geometry and Fractions. We will then begin our unit on measurement. The students will estimate and measure length to the nearest centimeter and inch. We will measure the weight and mass of objects in pounds and ounces and grams/kilograms using a scale. We will also use our measurement skills to find the area and perimeter of spaces. Science Our next unit is Matter and we will Investigate the basic Properties of solids, liquids and gases. We will conduct investigations and discuss the processes involved with the changes from one state to another. (condensation, evaporation, melting and freezing). Social Studies In Social Studies, we will begin our unit on Economics. Students will learn about natural, capital and human resources, as well as, distinguish between the use of barter and money in exchange for goods and services. We will also learn about scarcity and making economic choices. Geography Challenge Our second graders will be participating in a Geography Challenge during the last week ofApril. Each child will answer 25 basic geography questions. We have been learning about maps and geography throughout the year and this is a great opportunity for us to show our knowledge and have fun doing it!
