  1. First Week NewsFrom Sixth Grade • Dear parents, What a full and fun first (full) week we’ve had! Thank you for sharing your children with me and for your fabulous support. This week I started assessing the students in reading and math and am getting to know their unique strengths and areas to focus on for growth. What a fantastically sweet, creative, and capable class we have! In reading we started focusing on specific strategies for comprehension, accuracy, and expanding our vocabularies. In writing, we’ve been working on a piece called, “My Summer Synopsis.” After looking over our pre-assessments in math, I determined that we needed to spend some time reviewing and strengthening our multiplication skills. We’ve also tried some very challenging story problems in small groups. In spelling we’re focusing on patterns in words. We’ve had some fabulous discussions in Bible and have started our book, The Case for Christ. This week in science we applied new knowledge about structures, bridges, and design to create our own bridges and test the loads they can bear. The students worked together to create some truly impressive structures! • Reminders and updates: • Field trip next Thursday! Make sure your child brings a SACK lunch. • Reading logs are due each Monday. • Your child’s homework journal needs to be read and signed by a parent at the end of each week. • We will start meeting with our little buddies (in 3rd grade) this Friday.
