  1. FDR PresentationPersonal Health Monitoring Device Bassam Noaman Dina El-Eissa Mentor: Prof Zhenyu Guo Instructor: Prof J Silverman 4/12/00

  2. Overview • Sensors • ECG • Blood Pressure • Temperature • Signal Conditioning • Filters, Amplifiers,Logic • PIC Microcontroller • program interface • Palm pilot • PC

  3. Overall Block Diagram

  4. Specification • Power Supply: 9.0 VDC Battery • Operating time 2.8 hours(from Standard 9.0 VDC Duracell battery) • Inputs • Body Temperature Sensor • Detect Temperature in degree Celsius • Range between 25 C – 50.5 C • Blood Pressure • Range between 0 – 5 Psi(259mmHg) • Accuracy 0.125 @ 25 C • Manual cuff inflation • Maximum systolic pressure 250 mmHg • ECG • Bandwidth 0.3Hz – 150 Hz • Detect Heart Rate in bpm • One lead ECG

  5. Specification • Monitor Performance Specification • Palm Pilot screen record and plays the patient’s data file on the screen • PC screen displays the patient data file • Recorded body temperature • Systolic and diastolic blood pressure • ECG waveform • Heart rate • Email this data file • Interfaces • Cables to interface the human body to the device • Serial interface from the device to the Palm • Serial interface from the palm to PC

  6. Specification • Indicators • LED power status • LED blood pressure visual detector • Memory Storage • 1 MB of Palm is allocated for health monitoring • 55.6 minutes of display range

  7. Block Diagram

  8. Temperature signal conditioner simulation

  9. Output voltage of the body Temperature sensor

  10. Output voltage of the signal conditioner of the body temperature sensor

  11. Blood pressure measurement • Blood pressure: • is defined as the intra-arterial pressure generated by the pulsatic flow of blood through an artery. • The blood pressure is indicated from two numbers. • Systolic:represents the pressure while the heart is beating. maximum value for blood pressure • Diastolic: represents the pressure when the heart is resting between beats.

  12. Flowchart for blood pressure measurement

  13. Signal Conditioner of Capacitive Microphone

  14. ECG Signal Conditioner

  15. Simulation of the frequency domain of ECG

  16. Microcontroller circuit

  17. Software design block diagram

  18. Actual Physical Layout

  19. Physical layout of the program interface

  20. Demonstration • Measure current temperature and blood pressure and display it on the palm. • Display temperature, blood pressure and ECG wave in Hyper terminal, then take the data and save it in a file. Finally display it on java applet.

  21. Conclusion • The Palm pilot is not only an organizer, but also a device to monitor data(Blood pressure, Temperature)
