  1. These are the best foundations for every skin type: From a hydrating, hyaluronic acid-infused formula to a long-wear, glow-prolonging solution. It wouldn’t be surprising if finding the best foundations has become more of a priority for you lately. Our Zoom-filled days of the recent have now combined with IRL events for maximum face time, and we’re looking at our reflections like never before. The desire to put your best face forward is understandable. Luckily, many of the best foundations out there have been formulated to not only deliver immaculate coverage, but priorities our skin’s health as well. And so, we spoke with several pro makeup artists and revisited our own beauty bags for our most special formulas. From a hydrating, hyaluronic acid–infused formula to a long-wear, glow-prolonging solution. For dry skin “Dry skin produces less oil, so having a foundation with a radiant, luminous finish is essential to creating glowing skin,” says celebr Stiles, who recommends the Clé de Peau Beauté Radiant Fluid Foundation Natural. “The combination of the incredible emollient formula and the soft radiance creates a stunning finish on skin. I love using this for a healthy, fresh glow on my clients.” Additionally, “magical” is the word she uses to describe the Suqqu cream foundation. “The subtle pearl in the formula gives an ethereal dimension to the skin that almost feels otherworldly.” ity makeup artist Fiona “When skin leans more toward the dry side my two favourites are Armani Neo Nude foundation and Clarins Everlasting Youth Fluid,” says pro makeup artist Rachel Goodwin. “Both are exquisite formulas and have skin care infused into them so they add hydration to the skin without weighing it down. They are both fantastic formulas for transforming flat looking skin into radiant glowing skin.” Chanel’s Water-Fresh Tint comes at the recommendation of makeup artist Rob Rumsey. “It has a gel texture and pigmented micro droplets that give the perfect amount of coverage and radiance. It’s made of 75% water and feels so refreshing.” Alternatively, he and makeup artist Andre Sarmiento believe the Koh Gen Doh Maifanshi Foundation. Sarmiento tells us “[I] love this foundation for when I want a more skin-like finish versus a luminous finish on drier skin.

  2. Not everyone loves reflective skin, so I love this to take care of [dryness] but also have a balance of matte and dewy texture.” For oily skin “When it comes to oily skin, you want to manage oil and radiance,” explains Stiles. “It’s key to avoid luminous foundations because although they may look good hour one, by hour three you’ll be far too luminous and merge into greasy territory, having to heavily rely on powder to temper the glow. You want a foundation that is lightweight, oil-free, and shimmer-free.” One of her favourites is the Make Up For Ever Watertone foundation. “The first ingredient in this formula is water so the product feels light and refreshing on the skin. It has a soft velvety, weightless finish while still looking and feeling like skin, and comes in a wide range of shades with an excellent selection of different undertones.” Of the Completone SureBase, she notes that “The colors are great (they have some true neutral tones) and the formula gives a satin matte finish without looking cakey or chalky. I reach for these foundations all of the time.” “For oily skin, I love Chanel Ultra Le Teint Velvet Foundation,” says celebrity makeup artist Robert Sesnek. It looks so much like real skin on, and never settles into pores or fine lines. Its blurring effect is beyond impressive, and it can cover most hyperpigmentation. Besides being great for oily skin types, I love this foundation in the summertime when you want coverage that lasts!”Otherwise, for its “finish and wear time,” Rumsey loves the Clé de Peau Beauté Radiant Fluid foundation in matte. “It has a soft radiant finish and is packed with skin-care benefits. One pump is all you need. Start in the center of your face and work it outward.” “Nars Light Reflecting Foundation is perfect for all skin types as it’s a lightweight but buildable, makeup-skincare hybrid foundation that instantly blurs imperfections and smooths the look of textured skin and pores,” says celebrity makeup artist Janice Daoud. “The coverage is gorgeous and natural-looking with a prism light-reflecting look. A new favorite that stays in my kit.” Even more, Stiles says this is “available in 36 shades with buildable coverage so you can control how light or heavy you want the coverage to be.” Lastly, Sarmiento recommends the Il Makiage Flawless Base Foundation for oily skin because it “lasts so beautifully throughout the day and trols oil and shine without looking thick or caked.” For acne-prone skin

  3. Those with a tendency to break out are likely to seek out an oil-free foundation. Estée Lauder’s Double Wear Stay-in-Place Foundation fits the bill: it’s oil-free and non-comedogenic. “For coverage and texture, this foundation has always been the standard when it comes to acne-prone skin. The pigmentation and soft matte quality really give the refined texture that you’re often looking for when you are working with acne on a daily basis,” says Stiles. For something a bit lighter, Ilia’s Super Serum Skin Tint SPF 40-infused foundation will transform how you think about tinted moisturizer. The formula offers a lightweight shield from harsh sun rays and blue light. Hyaluronic acid, plant-based squalane, and niacinamide round out the powerhouse ingredient list. “This foundation works for a lot of types of skin, but I love it best for bringing dehydrated skin back to life. The coverage is there while also nourishing your skin,” says Sarmiento. “For healing and balance, I love this Clinique foundation if you’re acne-prone and oily because it works to combat everything affecting your skin while giving you coverage and a great finish,” explains Sarmiento of the formula infused with hyaluronic acid, salicylic acid, and vitamin C.
