  2. WHAT IS RISAT ? • RISAT-2 is an Indian radar reconnaissance satellite that is part of India's RISAT program. • Full form is Radar Imaging SATellite.

  3. RISAT COSTELLATION • A satellite constellation, also called asatellite swarm, is a system of satellites that work together to achieve a single purpose. • What is need for such constellation ? • TOPAS (USA), IGS Radar (Japan), COSMO (Italy).

  4. RISAT-2B • Successor of RISAT-2 (2009, Made by Israel). • Replace RISAT-2. • Launched on 22 May, 2019, from SatishDhawan Space Research Centre. • Vehicle used PSLV-C46 • Weight is 615 kg (Light Weight). • Other satellites which will join the constellation are : RISAT-2BR1, RISAT-2BR2, RISAT-1A, RISAT-1B, RISAT-2A, etc.

  5. PURPOSE • Primary purpose is to use it for Agriculture, Forestry & Disaster Management. • Secondary purpose is for Military.

  6. HOW DOES IT SEE ??? • It uses SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar). • Similar like normal RADAR.

  7. SAR Advantages Disadvantages • Can observe under all weather conditions. • Can work day or night • Can make polarimetric observations. (HH, VV, VH, HV) • Difficult interpretation since microwaves are used. • Geometric distortion due to observation system.
