  7. What is Seesaw? A digital portfolio that collects pupils’ digital and physical work in one place. Everything is organised A space that each pupil can own. Built-in tools make it easy for pupils to capture their learning, reflect, and develop new skills. A communication tool that is used to share your child’s learning. Watch the video to see how students describe Seesaw! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LbADgksW2L8

  8. See Sawhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pzlrtDR84KY For pupils- Pupils can “show what they know” using photos, drawings, text, PDFs, and links. Seesaw helps capture the learning process and not just the end result.  For families- An immediate and personalised window into your child’s school day. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pzlrtDR84KY

  9. How do you access it? Parents will be sent a code for their child’s work. It is really important you keep this code safe – do not share on social media as this is the key access to your child’s profile.

  10. Questions Is the basic package free? The basic package is free and we have no plans to upgrade. Teachers, pupils, and parents should never be charged for it.

  11. Questions The Seesaw for Schools version includes ‘Data on tech use and parent engagement’ what does this mean? Seesaw for Schools has advanced analytics so that schools can see how many posts pupils have made; how many parent visits there have been, and what the engagement was for a specified time frame.

  12. Questions Will the app become the primary way of teachers sharing pupil progress/attainment etc. or will the existing processes be maintained alongside the app? The existing processes will absolutely be maintained alongside the app. The app is definitely an ‘extra’ and our blue profiles will be our consistent use of pupil information, as well as achievement books, open afternoons/evenings, open doors, end of year reports, parents evenings are all opportunities where we will share progress about your child’s learning. Seesaw is an extra.

  13. Questions Have we looked at privacy and data protection which will be involved in the app? Yes – this has been looked at carefully. This is not a Highland wide tool, although there are other schools in the area who are successfully using it. From Seesaw – “Seesaw only stores data in the US at this time. Our privacy policy page has all the information you would need to answer this question from family members. The short answer is that we take privacy EXTREMELY seriously, and our policies are designed to protect student data above everything else” I have added the link to this PowerPoint so you can go and look yourselves at the privacy policies in more depth. It is important to explain that Seesaw is GDPR compliant. https://web.seesaw.me/privacy-policy/

  14. Questions Is it possible to ‘opt out’? If a child was to opt out how would this be managed within the class setting? Yes there is absolutely an option to opt out of the app. A profile for your child would not be set up; however all other means of work such as the blue profile and ongoing class assessments would continue.

  15. Questions Can work be transferred to other platforms of social media? What about group work? We would not be posting group activities. This is for individual use only. We won’t be posting videos either at this stage. Teachers can turn off family sharing in their class settings and we will be doing this. This will prevent family members from being able to save or share posts in Seesaw. This will not, however, stop you from taking screenshots. We would advise that you discuss with your child what is acceptable for you as a family.

  16. Questions Comments from parents and family members- All comments will be monitored prior to posting. This is to ensure that it is a positive experience for the children If a parent has a concern, it is always best to be discussed with the teacher. .

  17. Questions  Can parents opt out at any time? Will work be permanently deleted? Yes parents can opt out at any time. The school will be able to delete all information, on written request, and it will be permanently deleted within 60 days It is important that parents know that they are ultimately in control of their child’s data.

  18. Questions As a parent can I add achievements to my child’s profile? You could make a comment on a piece of work, including any achievements from home and this will then be approved by the class teacher.

  19. Update – February 2019 SEESAW – data processing agreement has been signed as a local authority They have agreed not to use the data with any third party Need consent for any child under 13 using site – then perfectly legal to use seesaw. If you would like your child to opt in to Seesaw at any point then please get in tuch with the school and we will be happy to provide you with a consent form. If your child has not submitted a consent form then a profile will not be set up for your child. Any questions regarding Seesaw, please contact Miss Munro (Acting DHT).
