  2. About the Twin Towers • Our symbol is the Twin Towers. • Minoru Yamaski designed the Twin Towers. • They were finished in the 1970’s. • Before September 11, 2001, the towers were a symbol of trade and commerce.

  3. In Remembrance of the Twin Towers • After September 11, 2001, they were symbols of U.S. tradgedy and strength. • More than 50,000 people worked at the World Trade Center and about 100,000 people visited there each day. They also had a store, restaurants, snack bars, a hotel, and a police station. • The tragic plane crashes brought the U.S. back together to help each other.

Interesting Facts • There was an enormous mushroom cloud of pulverized dust and debris appearing around the Twin Towers on September 11, 2001. • Thick dust clouds went in all directions at about 50 feet per second. • Jet fuel and debris temperatures were hot enough to melt steel. • Two planes crashed into the Twin Towers on September 11, 2001. • The Twin Towers were the tallest buildings in the world for a year.
